Deep seated pain in the groin may be an indicator of damage to the cartilage or labrum inside your hip. This may be amenable to an injection therapy or perhaps arthroscopic surgery. Sometimes a hip replacement will be the best option.
Lateral hip pain may be an indicator of a gluteus medius tendon tear. This in combination with bursitis may lead to a syndrome called Lateral Hip Syndrome, which can cause debilitating pain and a limp. Surgery directed towards this may decrease the constant pain on the side of your hip.
A loud pop or snap in the gluteal region associated with swelling and bruising in the leg after a run may indicate damage to the hamstring tendons. In certain cases this may warrant a surgical repair of the tendons.
Common sports and accident injuries of the hip and pelvis include:
Football: hip pointer, labrum tears, hip dislocation
Golf: labrum tears, hip abductor strains
Pickleball & Tennis: labrum tears, cartilage damage, quadriceps tendon ruptures
Basketball: labrum tears, femoral acetabular impingement, hamstring strains
